Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the
Credit Union National Association (CUNA),
Estes Park, Colo. September 16, 2009

On Sept. 16, 2009, a group of today’s credit union leaders and the descendants of leaders from 1934 gathered in Estes Park, Colo., to mark the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Meeting in the original location where American credit union pioneers developed and ratified the original CUNA charter three-quarters of a century before, leaders of today’s credit union movement marked the occasion with speeches, a celebratory toast, dedication of a new plaque commemorating the founding the nation’s largest credit union organization, and the restaging of an iconic photo of CUNA founders taken in 1934, featuring credit union movement officials, supporters and officers of today.

Addressing the approximately 150 credit union movement officials who attended the event were:

  • Kris Mecham, Chairman of CUNA;
  • Rosie Holub, Chairman of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues *(AACUL);
  • Kathy Pelletier, granddaughter of CUNA founder and first Managing Director Roy F. Bergengren;
  • Catherine & Bill Herring, children of CUNA founder and movement pioneer Louise Herring;
  • Dan Mica, President and CEO of CUNA.
